Reflecting on the diverse encounters from the arts festival, we move towards the next step. The finale will be a performance of Deaf artistic Visual Vernacular (VV) by Eri Nasu, Olivier Calcada, and Eddy. Let us witness together the conclusion of this festival where sign language and culture intersect.
Eri Nasu
Actor / Sign Language Entertainer
The first Deaf Japanese person to join Denmark-based "Frontrunners". Returning to Japan, she works as a sign language entertainer, actor, and International Sign interpreter. Her credits are numerous and include appearances in Fuji TV's "Silent", currently running NHK's "Minna no Shuwa" and "Shuwa de Tanoshimu Minna no TV", sign language performer for "Disney on Ice 2024", and sign language roles in AC Japan's 2024 commercial "Judgemental Detective". She learned VV in Denmark and became a VV performer in 2021, showcasing her performances in various locations. In 2024, she traveled to the United States to participate in a VV festival.
Olivier Calcada
Actor
Olivier Calcada, a Deaf actor and French/French Sign Language translator, co-founded the "Vice & Versa" agency in 2015 after training at Jean Jaurès University and working at Websourd for a decade. Since discovering his passion for theatre in 2010, he has performed with various companies in sign language shows and festivals. He also trains in theatrical arts at ETU in Toulouse and excels in Visual Vernacular (VV), promoting it beyond the Deaf community. Calcada collaborates internationally, contributing to projects with Sweden's Riksteatern Crea and Denmark's Teater5005.
Eddy
VV Performer
Eddy's early fascination with his uncle's bedtime 'sign stories' (now known as Visual Vernacular) sparked a lifelong dedication to the art form. Today, he is a committed performer and teacher of VV, sharing his expertise across various regions of Mexico and the Americas. He conducts workshops for deaf schools (Guadelajara), Deaf associations within Jalisco, government agencies (Jalisco Cultural Affairs, SEDER, DIF Jalisco, SIOP, IJA, IMISS), and universities (Guadelajara University, UTEG, CUCS), fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation for VV. He is also engaged in a personal project, developing a VV series that explores the history of his country. Furthermore, Eddy contributes to the VV community as a creator and online streaming manager for VV Underground, connecting with fellow enthusiasts and expanding the reach of this expressive visual language.
