We are excited to share CCSD’s recent project - the Deaf Arts Academy (DAA). DAA is a world-class professional training program for Deaf artists, focusing on De’VIA (Deaf View Image Art), signed music, and theatre, all conducted in sign languages. It supports Deaf professionals at all levels through research, resource development, mentorships, workshops and courses, leading to award-winning productions and exhibitions.

We will highlight the growing field of Signed Music, a powerful form of sign language performing arts. Following our presentation, we’ll hold questions and answers in three areas:
1) De’VIA (Visual Arts)
2) Signed Music
3) Theatre
Our team will facilitate, inviting participants to ask questions, share experiences, and discuss how we can support Deaf artists globally in developing their expertise. We look forward to sharing our journey with you.
About De'VIA (Deaf View/Image Art)
De'VIA is an art movement that visually expresses the Deaf view, experiences, and perspectives. It was first proposed in 1989 by Deaf artists in the United States. It's characterized not merely as "art made by Deaf people," but as art that actively reflects the Deaf perspective through sign language, Deaf culture, identity, and feelings of social oppression and liberation.
Deaf Arts Academy Canadian Cultural Society of the Deaf (CCSD)
The Canadian Cultural Society of the Deaf (CCSD) is a registered non-profit organization dating back to 1973. It represents Canada’s national Deaf cultural and arts interests and has received numerous awards for its sign languages and Deaf arts productions, publications and digital sign language programming. CCSD is committed to strengthening our upcoming Deaf generation through providing job opportunities for young Canadian Deaf performing artists, celebrating young Deaf artist achievements, and promoting Deaf well-being by reducing the stigma associated with being Deaf and increasing understanding between Deaf and hearing people through the arts, signed languages and Deaf culture diversity.
